Rocky View Schools (RVS) is pleased to announce A.E. Bowers Elementary School in Airdrie is the recipient of an $80,000 grant from the Indigo Love of Reading Foundation. The grant will be given out over the next three years.

“Our school community is so grateful for this funding, which will help instill a culture of literacy and a love of reading among our students,” said Principal, Jocelyn Littlefair. “Aside from a sizeable allotment each year for books, this funding will go towards literacy programs for our students, professional learning for staff and events like author visits.”

A.E. Bowers is one of 40 schools in Canada that will receive funding for literacy projects this year. Additional details about this year’s grant recipients are available from the Indigo Love of Reading Foundation.

“As a reader myself, I love to see students pour over the pages of a good book,” said A.E. Bowers teacher Kelly Friesen, who was heavily involved in applying for the grant. “This funding will enable us to add new and interesting English and French titles to classroom libraries and the main library. I want all students in our building to see themselves in books.”

RVS and A.E. Bowers Elementary School thank the Indigo Love of Reading Foundation for this financial contribution that will support literacy activities at the school. Learn more about the foundation at loveofreading.org.
