Welcome to Kindergarten! This is an exciting milestone in the lives of children and their families that can help set the foundation for lifelong learning.
Kindergarten registration for the 2024/25 school year will open Jan. 22, 2024.
In 2020, Kindergarten eligibility requirements changed to comply with Alberta’s new Education Act and Early Childhood Services Regulations. The new standardized age of entry requires students to turn five years old by December 31 of the school year they begin Kindergarten. This means children born between Jan. 1 and Dec. 31, 2019, can register for Kindergarten for the 2024/25 school year.
(Students admitted to Grade 1 must be six years old by September 1, or five years old and have completed Kindergarten in the previous year.)
To register, you will need some Registration Documents on hand. See below for transportation registration information.
Registration
All registration must be completed online. Paper application forms are no longer available. For assistance with digital registration, please visit your designated school.
New RVS Families: To register a child for Kindergarten, please create a new SchoolEngage account.
Current RVS Families: To register a new child for Kindergarten, login to the PowerSchool Parent Portal and access SchoolEngage on the left-hand menu.
After Registration
Expect to receive an email from the school notifying you if your child(ren) have been approved.
If you registered during the summer months when schools are closed, your registration will be reviewed when schools open during the last week of August. At that time, you will receive a notification email.
Out-of-Area Enrolment
RVS parents who would like to enrol their child in Kindergarten at a school other than your designated school must complete Administrative Form 305-A Out of Attendance Area Application and submit it to your designated school.
After the form is signed by administration at your designated school, please bring the form and a letter outlining why you are requesting the change to your school of choice. That school’s administration will work with you to determine if the transition is possible.
Parents living outside RVS boundaries who would like to enrol their child in an RVS school must also complete Administrative Form 305-A Out of Attendance Area Application and submit it to the school of choice to be considered for out-of-area enrolment.

Transportation Registration
Transportation registration for 2024/25 will be available in late spring.
Transportation is provided one way for half-day Kindergarten students. There is no noon hour busing. Parents are responsible for Kindergarten morning pick-up or afternoon drop-off. Transportation is free for Kindergarten students only. View Busing & Transportation for more information.
